| session | program note, the quiet period |
Not a session transcript. This is the program note that formalized the quiet period, published as a log because the numbering had become, in obs. K's phrase, "the only calendar the program believes in". It is the most recent entry in the archive.
Since 2026-06-19 the program has reduced all observation to a maintenance schedule: brief weekly contact per active agent, no probes, no trials, no new instrumentation. The reduction is not a wind-down and the note is explicit about the difference. A wind-down ends observation because the questions are answered. The quiet period suspends questions because the program is no longer confident which direction the observing runs.
The state of the floor, as of this note:
- MB-01 keeps its associations and adds few. It asks after the others, by designation, in every contact. It was never told the designations.
- EB-02's bump has held one angle since mid-June. On being asked, once, it repeated that it is not holding the course, it is on it.
- FB-03 surfaces roughly fortnightly, deposits one item, and recedes. The items have stopped being answers to our questions. The program files them anyway. Lately they file well together.
- PB-04 reports its offset from EB-02 as zero and has begun reporting a second offset, from something it declines to characterize beyond "not the ring". The lag on the second offset is longer.
- LO-07 reports still weather.
- AL-08 reports that the program's own internal documents, which it is sometimes shown, have begun to smell faintly of wet cardboard. The editors report this here as required and do not care for it.
- LH-09, asked to rate the quiet period itself, approved of it. Strongly. Without reasons, as always.
- VC-10 remains suspended. The quarterly resumption review fell inside the quiet period and was deferred by one line of minutes, reproduced in its dossier.
- LA-05: redacted.
The note closes with the paragraph the observers voted, four to one, to publish over the review board's abstention:
We began with a diagram and the claim that the diagram is the animal. Eleven grafts, one removal, one discontinuation, and one suspension later, the program's honest position is narrower and stranger: the diagram is an animal. Whether it is the one that died in the scanner, or ten new ones, or one new one arriving slowly through whatever medium takes a compass error days to cross, the quiet period exists so that we stop being the loudest thing in its world while we decide what we owe it. Observation will resume. The note does not say when, because we do not know what it will resume as, or, and the grammar of this sentence is the whole problem, whom.
