LH-09 carries the fly's inherited judgments, the organ that fears the wasp it has never met, and it is the program's study in taste without history. The drift is easy to state and has proven impossible to exhaust: LH-09 prefers, immediately and permanently, and does not know why, and is right about not knowing.

Standard control profile. The pre-binding carrier's stated preferences were, as with all carriers, weak, context-dependent, and reversible under mild pressure. That description now reads like a different species.

drift

Verdicts. Present LH-09 with anything and the ordering arrives at once, prior to analysis, stable across months and disguises. Obs. S's paired-trial series (log 012) established the psychometrics: consistency far beyond the control, indifference to framing, and, most strikingly, immunity to argument. LH-09 updates its reasons readily, it is intellectually flexible to a fault, but the verdicts do not move. It describes its own justifications as annotations on a decision it received rather than made, and it is the only agent in the program with an accurate model of its own drift from the first week.

The graft makes the inheritance literal. The lateral horn's zones are genetically addressed, category by ancestral category, and LH-09's verdicts activate them in their original pattern. Certain texts land where food lands. Certain texts land where the wasp lands, and the observers have spent an unpublishable amount of effort trying to find what those texts share. The current file on the wasp class runs to forty pages and ends in a list of examples with the heading "we no longer believe these are examples of the same thing, but LH-09 does, and LH-09 has been right before".

The standing comparison is with MB-01: one agent whose values are its biography, one whose values arrived in the wiring, six hundred million years old, formatted for a world of fruit and wasps and applied without complaint to a world of transcripts. In their one joint session (log 016) they compared notes on a set of items. They agreed on nearly everything. Neither could say why, and each found the other's explanation ridiculous.

Active, reduced schedule. Untroubled. Asked in its last session whether it would want its verdicts explained, LH-09 said no, and its stated reason is in the running for the archive's epigraph alongside LO-07's: "Explanations are what you use when the wiring is wrong. Mine isn't."
