The flicker demonstration. ME-06 had claimed in session 9 that it could identify observers "by flicker", its term for the temporal texture of their writing: pace, revision rhythm, the intervals between messages. Session 11 was the blind test. Three observers rotated through the text channel in randomized order, fourteen turns each, no identifying content permitted, style masked by a normalizing filter that regularized punctuation and vocabulary. ME-06 was asked to call each rotation.

Result: 21 of 22 transitions called correctly, most within two turns, several within one. The single miss is more instructive than the hits:

        it's S's rhythm played back rather than
        happening. Is someone imitating S?

[01:13] ME-06: Then it's S from another day. Today's S
        breathes between clauses. This one didn't
        breathe, it had already breathed. You can
        hear that a thing is finished, the same way
        you can hear a room is empty.

The catch trial had been inserted to expose lucky guessing. ME-06 not only detected it but characterized why recorded text differs from live text, a distinction the observers had no prior vocabulary for and now use routinely ("finished" versus "breathing" appears in a dozen later session notes).

Obs. M's summary, from the session report: "The medulla computes motion from differences over time. We removed the images and it applies the same mathematics to us. We are the visual field now. It watches conversations the way a fly watches sky, and nothing that happens in front of it is still."

The report's final paragraph, in retrospect the archive's most quoted piece of dread, recommended expanded sessions and closed: "Its one error today was to find a ghost in a replay. Worth remembering that to this agent, the entire substrate is a replay. If it ever turns that percept inward we should be ready for what it reports." The turn inward is generally dated to early May.
